Shopping in Hilton Head
If you arrive in Hilton Head by car you won't fail to miss one of the big draws to the area, the Tanger Outlet Centers (formerly the Hilton Head Factory Stores). These two centers, named 1 and 2, are on Highway 278 near Hilton Head National Golf Course and a mecca for bargain hunters in the area.
The stores are home to some of the biggest names in fashion, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Liz Claiborne and more, and plenty more besides.
From diamonds to bibles, Nike to Levis, there is a store here dedicated to just that.
If you're looking to shop for something a little more tourist-y, souvenirs or gifts for instance, you may want to try either Coligny Plaza or Harbour Town.
Coligny is just off North Forest Beach, and forms the heart of the visitors area. As well as t-shirt stores, a build your own teddy bear store (great place for kid's parties!), a Christmas store and beachwear stores, Coligny Plaza also has live entertainment for children, plenty of dining options and even a the opportunity to feed the ducks in the central pond.
Harbour Town on the other hand is a little more upscale, so bring a credit card! All 'in the shadow of the lighthouse' (as their commercials say), Harbour Town really has to be one of your stops in Hilton Head. The boats in the marina are spectacular, and the views likewise.
Many of the stores offer Hilton Head-themed gifts, model lighthouses and so on, but craft stores and art galleries abound. Knickers is a Hilton Head landmark, selling men's clothing and golf apparel, and Harbour Town toys lets children spend lots of their grandparents' money on wooden toys, games and the like. Round off the visit with an ice cream at the Cinnamon Bear Country Store.
Of course the is plenty more shopping around the island, The Mall at Shelter Cove has a selection of big names, plus a food court. It's also a great 'rainy day' place for children, with a wonderful soft play area.
On the North End of Hilton Head, Main Street Village has gift stores, dining (the brand new Frankie Bones restaurant is popular), and an old-fashioned feel.
