Designed by the master of golf Jack Nicklaus, Golf Digest rates Melrose on Daufuskie Island as a four and a half star course. Although we're classing it as a Hilton Head golf course, Melrose is actually sited on Daufuskie Island, and can only be reached by boat.

The front and back nines differ quite sharply from one another, with the front nine's meandering run through local marshes and the trees of Daufuskie, while the back nine takes the golfer on a testing trip along the coast of the Atlantic, and looking out towards the famous lighthouse at Harbour Town.

The eighteen hole is a spectacular reward for those who play the full course, as the green juts out into the ocean, which looks simply amazing.
