About a ten or fifteen minute drive from the bridge to Hilton Head, Island West is a quite recently developed gated community from D R Horton. Homeowners can receive preferential rates on memberships but the Island West golf course is open to the public.
A collaboration between Fuzzy Zoeller and local golf architect Clyde Johnston, Island West has rolling fairways with spectacular vistas, spanish moss draped live oaks and challenging greens.
A Beginner Friendly Certified Course by the NGCOA, Island West offers golf clinics, has loan clubs available and generally tries to appeal to those who want to learn the game, not just the expert player.
