There are twenty seven holes at Hilton Head National, the original eighteen by the legendary Gary Player, and then nine more were added in 1999 by Bobby Weed.
They offer something that few courses around Hilton Head do - no homes or homesites along the fairways. The result is a peaceful round in a natural setting, leaving you with no distractions simply to focus on the golf.
The National can be surprisingly like Augusta if you come in the Spring, with the azaleas in full bloom and the deep green of the fairways, but you certainly don't need to be professional standard to play here. Water comes in to play on only a few holes, and the fairways are often wide enough to forgive even beginner golfers, but that is not to suggest that the National is easy, in fact the 3 groups of nine holes (known as the Weed, Player and National) offer a variety of styles to maximize your experience.

"Sixteen of us played seven courses on Hilton Head in May 2005. Hilton Head National was undoubtedly the highlight. Fastest, truest greens we played. Friendliest staff by far. A challenging course which gave everyone a chance. I should know....I won the T shirt with 39 points..four clear of the clueless field. Great golf course."
